We’ve really tried to cover grounds on almost all disciplines… top student in this, ‘A’ grade in that, and so on. There is however one subject that is still lacking in the curriculum today, which I think is extremely important.
Before I tell you what this skill is, I’ll try to impress upon you what happens when we don’t have it in us, and at the same time we don’t make efforts to learn it:
- The meeting becomes a gigantic mess of opinions, lost in a sea of un-synergy.
- Holistic solutions cannot be approached. Everyone thinks that they are correct.
- Severe inefficiency occurs. Time is wasted as objectives may not be met.
(In addition, you might get a ringing in your ear from time to time. As victim, you might grow irritated, and your thoughts and ideas may give in to this irritation. You detest at attitudes rather than the real problems at hand.)
So now, please vote with me to suggest that this particular course of study be compulsory in all education institutions. Don’t get me wrong, you might know this already. But as a policy, it certainly doesn’t hurt to know this discipline better.
The name of the subject?
Listening.
