Just an idea, if the resouces are available.
Every Friday, Masjids all over the world preach to the faithful at approximately noon time with extra volume. It’s the Friday Khutbah, when mass crowds enter the masjids to listen to the sermon before performing the Friday prayers.
What makes this khutbah worth noting is that often the Khatib at the minbar is using some sort of a microphone to project his voice, and often his voice and message can be heard outside the masjid. To make my case, I’d like to share with you my personal experience:
“I had finally gotten out of the cab. I was late, Sheikh Khalil Moore surely had started his sermon at Masjid Sultan. Masjid Sultan was ahead, and I had to walk through the crowd. Yet I could hear the Sheikh’s voice and message resonate across the stalls, streets, people. I caught a glimpse of a tourist, a lady wearing shades who suddenly paused, leaned against one of the shophouse pillars, and stood there listening to the sermon. At that point in time, the Sheikh was saying:
“Many people out there are in pain. Their hearts are in pain. Help them to Islam”
The woman stood there. Her shades were in her hands. She stood. Listening.”
If the resources are available, sermons should be targeted for specific masjids. No, we’re not saying each masjid a customized one, but rather you can group them into two main clusters for example:
- Masjids that are near towards focal points for da’wah should take full advantage and have their sermons catered for such. For example, having a sermon in English at Masjid Sultan is appropriate since tourists flock there.
- For masjids near towards heartlands, encourage messages of community activism and family bonding.
That sort of thing. This suggestion is on the assumption that there is a central body which copywrites the sermons for facilitation in the first place. If such a system is already in place, why not add some marketing and make the sermons more targeted so that the right message and value is communicated at the right place.
And God knows what is corrrect. Let me hear your thoughts please.
