Be Different…But Not Too Different

Being unique and different is important for people to remember you. However being too different is not good as well. Here’s why:
- People are comfortable when things are familiar
- People open up more when they are comfortable
- In business sense, people purchase more when they are more willing to open up to the offering
In general of course. So how do you decide the boundaries? My tip is to strip your product of all the packaging and stuffs and concentrate on what was the initial problem it was trying to solve. From there, list down basic functions and perceptions your product has to satisfy in order to solve that problem without scaring your consumers.
Fit your product’s uniqueness with the right target audience. If your product is really too radical or ahead of its time, focus your promotions on members of public who are by nature ahead of their time too. Once they pick it up, they will then spread calmness to their networks which would include those wary ones, who wait for others to purchase before themselves, who would be encouraged to purchase because others are purchasing too.
